Fence installation, Toronto and the GTA
Fences that stay straight for decades.
A fence is only as good as what is underground. We set every post in concrete below Toronto's frost line, in clay soil that punishes shortcuts, so your gate still swings true in year ten.
Styles and pricing
What fences cost in Toronto right now
Installed ranges for the current Toronto market, including posts, concrete, panels, and standard hardware. Gates, old fence removal, and difficult access are itemized separately.
Wood Privacy
$40–70
per linear ft installed
Classic 6 ft pressure treated privacy fence. The most popular fence in the city for a reason.
Cedar & Horizontal
$55–95
per linear ft installed
Horizontal cedar and board on board. Modern look, natural weather resistance, worth every dollar.
Vinyl / PVC
$60–100
per linear ft installed
Zero staining, no rot, 20 to 30 year lifespan. We spec cold-rated vinyl that will not go brittle at minus 20.
Chain Link
$15–30
per linear ft installed
The budget option for big runs, dog areas, and property line definition where looks matter less.
Single gates typically run $500 to $900 installed. A 1 ft lattice topper adds roughly $8 to $18 per linear foot. Horizontal board orientation adds $5 to $12 per linear foot over vertical due to extra framing.
Toronto bylaws
The rules before you build
Height limits
Backyard fences up to about 2 m generally do not need a permit. Taller fences require an exemption. Front yard fences are capped much lower, and corner lots have sight triangle limits.
Pool enclosures
Toronto requires pool enclosures of at least 1.5 m with self-closing, self-latching gates. Pool fencing runs 10 to 20 percent more than standard.
Shared fences
Boundary fences can be cost-shared with your neighbour under Ontario's Line Fences Act, often 50/50 by agreement. We quote it both ways so the conversation is easy.
Bylaw details change. We confirm current City of Toronto requirements for your specific property at the site visit.
