How Much Does a Fence Cost in Toronto? (2026 Prices Per Linear Foot)

By Aaron Mead, Toronto Decks & Fences · Published · Updated

A professionally installed fence in Toronto costs roughly $30 to $95 per linear foot in 2026 depending on material. A standard 100-foot pressure-treated privacy fence runs about $4,000 to $8,000 installed; cedar and vinyl push toward $5,000 to $8,500; composite lands higher still. Chain link is the budget option at $15 to $40 per foot. Gates, old-fence removal, and difficult digging are the add-ons that move a quote most.

The add-ons that change your quote

A note on cheap vinyl

Vinyl quality varies more than any other fence material. Budget PVC that isn't UV-stabilized and cold-rated can crack and discolour within a handful of Toronto winters, and cracked panels need full replacement since repairs don't blend. If a vinyl quote is dramatically below the range above, ask exactly what product is being installed.

Two of ours that show how site conditions bite. On one sloped yard, the fence line looked straight at layout, but the grade fell away toward the back of the property. By the time the concrete had cured, the rear posts sat three to four inches proud and threw off the whole rest of the run, and we spent the better part of a day chipping out concrete and resetting before a single board went up. On another job, a "quick" chain link removal turned into the worst demo we've done: old posts set in far more concrete than anyone expected, and none of it wanted to leave the ground. Tear-out looks like a small line on a quote until the ground argues back, which is why we walk the full line and check the grade before pricing anything.

FAQ

How much is a fence for a typical Toronto semi's backyard? City lots often need only 40-70 linear feet of new fencing. In pressure-treated wood that's roughly $1,500 to $4,000 installed, depending on gates and tear-out.

Is cedar worth the premium over pressure-treated? If you like the look and plan to let it grey naturally, often yes: it lasts longer and skips the staining cycle. If you'd stain either one anyway, the gap narrows.

What's the cheapest fence that still looks good? Pressure-treated board fencing is the value pick. Chain link with privacy slats ($5 to $12 per foot extra) is the budget privacy compromise.

Does my neighbour have to split the cost? Not in Toronto; cost sharing is voluntary. See our full guide on neighbour fence cost sharing.
